Sunrise ... Sunset

March 13, 2019

From the celebrated poet, Mary Oliver, who recently passed away, these wondrous words:

I Have Decided

I have decided to find myself a home

in the mountains, somewhere high up

where one learns to live peacefully in

the cold and the silence.  It’s said that

in such a place certain revelations may

be discovered.  That what the spirit reaches for may be eventually felt, if not

exactly understood.  Slowly, no doubt.  I’m

not talking about a vacation.

Of course at the same time I mean to

stay exactly where I am.

Are you following me?

- by Mary Oliver

Speaking of "certain revelations" I never grow tired of watching the light on Ice Mountain just across the way from my home. At 13,950' its three prominences catch the sun's rays well before and after light is on the valley floor. The main show happens in the early morning and there is a matinee later in the afternoon.

The first series of four pics is a single sunset. Gray, a quick burst of color, again gray. The next two show the following sunrises. Have to be quick with the camera.

And just to catch up on the weather and such, we have been getting epic snowfall since early January. I have recorded measurable snowfall 31 out of the last 61 days. Those 31 days added up 107" of snow. We now have 53" on the ground and have received 154" for the season. This has made for some cool adventures and will certainly allow for a huge runoff - something like 150% of average. More revelations:
